| A note on the author |
| Abandoning early ambitions to be a
priest or a film-maker, British-born John
Collings read modern history at Oxford
University, then spent most of his life
thereafter as a journalist in South Africa,
writing on a wide range of subjects for
the Financial Mail, Leadership magazine
and the Anglo American Corporation
publication, Optima. He also wrote Gold
Under Their Hooves (Chris van Rensburg
Publications, 1987), a centennial history
of the Johannesburg Turf Club. |
